Wireless
Networks and stand-alone computers that use wireless are at risk from wireless attacks. Laptops contain wireless network capabilities and if not properly safeguarded, can be used to provide unauthorized access to the computer, networks, and your proprietary or personal data. The wireless capabilities of laptops should be disabled when the laptops are connected to any network. Unescorted visitors or employees can connect a wireless access point to your network and bypass all of the security protocols on the network. Current wireless access points are no bigger than thumb drives and can be easily overlooked or hidden.
A TSCM Survey can detect and locate any wireless access points located within your facility.
Telephones
Telephones are an inherent security weakness. Each telephone contains at least one microphone and one speaker that becomes a microphone when not used as a speaker. Commercially available telephone instruments normally do not possess built in security devices that disconnect the microphones and speakers when not in use. Analog cell and cordless phones add an additional weakness in that the link between the cell phone and relay tower or between the cordless handset and base station is a radio frequency link that can be intercepted by anyone possessing the appropriate commercially available receiving equipment.
A thorough TSCM Survey will check for system vulnerabilities, modifications, and concealed surveillance devices.
